The M7 105mm Howitzer Motor Carriage, named "Priest" by the British due to its pulpit-like machine gun mount, was a successful American self-propelled artillery vehicle designed to support mobile armored forces. While early versions used the M3 Lee chassis, the updated M7B1 variant transitioned to the M4A3 Sherman tank chassis and a 500 horsepower Ford GAA V8 engine. Manufactured by the Pressed Steel Car Company from March 1944 to February 1945, this mechanical upgrade simplified logistics during the Allied push through Northwest Europe, with the series seeing continued use through the Korean War and later conflicts in the Middle East.
