Khmer king Suryavarman II constructed it in the 12th century for Hindu worship.

Five brick and sandstone towers make up the temple, which has a laterite large stone base. The main tower features sandstone bas-reliefs of Shiva, Brahma, Ganesha, Vishnu, and Uma.

In the sixteenth century, the temple was modified for usage by Thai Buddhists.
