The first jet fighter in the world to complete an operational tour at sea.
FJ-2 was essentially a carrier-based F-86 with the addition of a tailhook, catapult hook on the underside of the wings, and a lengthened nose wheel. The airplane was capable of a top speed almost 100 mph faster than the jet fighters being flown by naval aviators in Korea.
The FJ-2 proved unsuitable for carrier operations and was operated exclusively by the Marine corps.
