The best gear for photo packs

Hello fellow artists,

I am  Julien Gauthrin and in this short article I will introduce you to how I use my photo gear so you can get inspired to create your own quality photo packs.

My camera body

I use a Camera Nikon Reflex D7200 since 2015. The camera itself will give you good quality photos in terms of technicity, but you will have to learn how to use it plus the settings of the RAW format to create inspiring photos.

Let me show you an example with this photo of A fisherman village in Bali, September 2019.

1. This is what you get when you use the auto-mode and don’t edit your photo.

2. Jpg with camera settings.  I use some camera settings to enhance contrasts and saturations. This is what you get in my packs.

3. Final render with camera RAW settings in Photoshop. This is the quality result I use for my promotional images and my artistic photos.

My main lens

The Nikon 18 - 105mm lens is ideal to begin with because you can shot at from decent zoom to complete scenes.

Other lenses

Sometimes I use my Nikon 50 mm f/1.8 lens for portraits because of the highly contrasted depth of field or for some night photographies without a tripod since the aperture can capture a lot of light information. However, this is a fixed lens, you can’t zoom with it.

My wide angle lens is a Nikon 10-20 mm f/4.5-5.6G. Ideal to capture the whole atmosphere of a room or when you are close to your subject with not a lot of space to step back.

Tripod

I use my Benro Tripod for night photography. It allows to take long exposure shots to play with car flashlights and to stabilize the camera body so I can capture enough light in the dark.

To go further

Now that you know what you can achieve with this kind of gear, in the next articles I have some ideas to write tutorials about the settings of my camera and for which purpose I use them (which can be applied to almost all of the reflex cameras), the settings of the RAW format in Photoshop and night photography.
